If you’re a fan of avocados, you know that they can be quite expensive to purchase at the grocery store. Growing an avocado plant from seed is easy and inexpensive, and it’s a great way to add some greenery to your home. Plant growing cubes are small cubes made from phenolic foam. They’re a great choice for starting seeds because they provide the perfect environment for germination. Here’s how to plant avocado seeds using plant-growing cubes:
Step 1: Choose a Ripe Avocado
The first step is to choose a ripe avocado. Look for an avocado that’s slightly squishy when you press on it. If an avocado is too firm, it’s not ripe enough. If it’s too soft, it’s overripe. The perfect avocado should give slightly when pressed.
Step 2: Remove the Seeds
Once you’ve chosen your avocado, carefully cut it in half lengthwise. You should be able to see a large, round seed inside. Use a spoon to gently scoop the seed out of the avocado.
Step 3: Wash the seed
Rinse the seed under cold water to remove any remaining avocado flesh. Be careful not to remove the brown skin on the seed.
Step 4: Choose Plant Growing Cubes
Select a plant-growing cube that’s designed for starting seeds. Make sure the cube is moist before you begin.
Step 5: Plant the SeedS
Place the seed in the hole on the top of our plant growing cube, with the flat end facing down.
Step 6: Water the CubeS
Put them in the tray and water the cube until it’s moist but not soaking wet. The seed should be kept moist, but not submerged in water. To keep the seed moist, you can cover the cube with a plastic wrap.
Step 7: Wait for Germination
Place the plant-growing cube in a warm, sunny spot and wait for germination. This usually takes between two to six weeks. Be patient, as it can take longer. Once the seed has sprouted, remove the plastic wrap.
Step 8: Transplant the Seedling
Once the seedling is about six inches tall, you can transplant it into a small pot. Make sure the pot has plenty of drainage holes, as avocado plants don’t like soggy soil. Fill the pot with a good quality potting soil and transplant the seedling. Water it thoroughly and place it in a sunny location.
Planting avocado seeds using plant growing cubes is a fun and easy way to grow your own avocado plant. With a little patience and care, you’ll soon have a beautiful and productive plant that will provide you with delicious avocados for years to come.
